Why it matters:
Families across Kansas City are facing real challenges from the government shutdown, rising costs, and cuts to SNAP benefits. We wanted to do something meaningful, joyful, and impactful in return.
We Want a CHIEFS Christmas is a heartfelt, locally created album designed to lift spirits while helping nourish families this holiday season.

The School Lunch Crisis

30.4 million US students can’t afford their school meals.

43% of school districts reported increasing numbers of students who can’t afford meals.

Midwest states have among the highest reported unpaid meal debt (88.1%)

Student meal debt in Missouri has reached almost $44 million

Student meal debt in Kansas reached about $23.5 million
When families can’t pay for meals served, schools are forced to use education funds to cover the losses, resulting in the loss of education resources for all students.

Countess children face the uncertainty of not having a meal during their school day. This not only affects their health but also their ability to concentrate and succeed in their studies.
We believe that access to nutrition meals is a fundamental right for every child. That’s why our mission goes beyond just alleviating hunger - it’s about fostering a thriving, supportive environment where every child can learn and grow.
Our approach involves addressing the underlying issues contributing to school lunch debts. Through fundraising, community engagement, and direct action, we work diligently to ensure no child in our community goes hungry.
By clearing these debts, we aim to create a ripple effect of positivity, empowering students to focus on their education with the assurance that their basic needs are met.
